Offer to CAUL (29/9/04)

Potentially interested institutions are:
The University of Melbourne
University of New South Wales
The University of Western Australia
Macquarie University
The University of Newcastle
CSIRO
Australian National University
University of Otago
University of New England

For 2005, electronic-only access to all eight IUCr journals (Acta Crystallographica Section F: Structural Biology and Crystallization Communications will be launched in January) back to 1948 for this 9-member consortium would cost GBP16273.54 [ie GBP 1,808 each]. Per library, this represents a discount of 37.52%.

If, for example, one print copy of each journal were required, the package price would be GBP17415.14.

The IUCr journals are also available via Blackwell Synergy but please note that the content only goes back to 2000 at present.

Offer to CAUL (26/11/02, eoi to CAUL Office by 6/12/02):

The following universities have full access to the journals from 16/5/03 until 31/12/03 (extended trial):
Australian National University
Macquarie University
The University of Melbourne
University of New England
University of New South Wales
The University of Newcastle
University of Otago
University of Western Australia
CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation)

The International Union of Crystallography (IUCr), a non-profit scientific union, publishes seven journals in association with Blackwell Munksgaard. We are writing to library consortia to let you know that special subscription deals are now available exclusively through the IUCr’s Crystallography Journals Online service.

The special deals provide, at a discount, full electronic access to all the journals currently published by the IUCr and to all issues back to the first issue of Acta Crystallographica, which was published in 1948. Many of the classical and highly cited papers in physical, chemical and biological crystallography and a wealth of information on all aspects of crystallography and structural science are contained within this collection. The journals are as follows:

Acta Crystallographica Section A: Foundations of Crystallography (http://journals.iucr.org/a)
Acta Crystallographica Section B: Structural Science (http://journals.iucr.org/b)
Acta Crystallographica Section C: Crystal Structure Communications (http://journals.iucr.org/c)
Acta Crystallographica Section D: Biological Crystallography (http://journals.iucr.org/d)
Acta Crystallographica Section E: Structure Reports Online (http://journals.iucr.org/e)
Journal of Applied Crystallography (http://journals.iucr.org/j)
Journal of Synchrotron Radiation (http://journals.iucr.org/s)

To see the full range of benefits and to calculate the cost of a deal for your consortium, please visit http://www.iucr.org/cgi-bin/consort/complete

The following CAUL members have subscriptions to the IUCr journals:

Australian National University
Curtin University of Technology
La Trobe University
Macquarie University
Monash University
The University of Melbourne
University of New England
University of New South Wales
The University of Newcastle
University of Queensland
University of Sydney
University of Technology, Sydney
The University of Western Australia

and the librarians have been informed that deals are available for individual libraries and consortia. If these universities (as a 13-member consortium) maintained their current print subscriptions (there is no obligation to do this), they would each benefit from a 14% discount for 2003 and online access to ALL the above-mentioned journals.

Naturally, though, we would like to see all members of CAUL with access to our journals, and should be most grateful if you would distribute this information. If any of the above libraries have renewed their subscriptions for 2003 with the publishers, Blackwell, then it is still possible for them to be included in a consortial deal (they would receive a pro rata discount when any agreement started). However, please note that if any of these libraries have renewed their subscriptions for 2003 via a subscription agent, then we would have to wait until 2004 before including them in any such deal. Subscribers to the print edition of any IUCr journal are still entitled to access the corresponding online edition free of charge.

To purchase a subscription, please send your quotation from the online calculator together with a list of participating sites to me at as@iucr.org. This information may also be faxed to +44 1244 314888 marked for my attention. You will then be invoiced for the subscription by the IUCr.
